As the sun rises and sets today, I invite you to pray this prayer of praise with me.
When you pray, remember that these names are who the Lord IS, not just who we "feel" He is. As you declare these names of God, you can confidently say, "God, You ARE" these things—not because we feel they are true, but because these names are revealed in Scripture. Keep the bigger picture of life within eternity in mind, not just your present circumstances, as you pray these words with me: Lord your name is...
Yahweh (YHWH) - you are personal, you are the great I AM, self-existent and eternal. (Exodus 3:14).
You are...
Elohim - mighty, powerful, a majestic Creator! (Genesis 1:1)
You are...
Adonai - my Lord, you have all authority in my life. (Genesis 15:2).l
You are...
El Shaddai - all sufficient, having ultimate power over all I can see and all I cannot see. (Genesis 17:1)
You are...
Jehovah Jireh - you will provide. Just as you provided a ram for Abraham as a substitute sacrifice for Isaac (Genesis 22:14) you have provided Jesus as a sacrifice for me!
You are...
Jehovah Rapha - you are the LORD who heals. You are the healer of the body and the soul, taking care of my physical and spiritual needs. (Exodus 15:26)
You are...
Jehovah Nissi - my banner! You lead and protect my soul day and night. (Exodus 17:15)
You are...
Jehovah Shalom - you are peace. Just as Gideon used this name to commemorate your assurance of peace, I also praise you for being my Prince of Peace. (Judges 6:24)
You are...
Jehovah Sabaoth - the LORD of Hosts. You are the commander of the heavenly armies that I cannot see and this amazes me. (1 Samuel 1:3)
You are...
Jehovah Tsidkenu - our righteousness. I praise you because you have provided righteousness through the Messiah, seeing me as pure and forgiven because of his sacrifice on my behalf. (Jeremiah 23:6)
You are... Jehovah Rohi - my Shepherd. Like David in Psalm 23, I praise you for your guidance and care.
You are...
El Elyon - God Most High. You are supreme and sovereign over all. (Genesis 14:18)
You are...
El Olam - the Everlasting God, eternal and unchanging. (Genesis 21:33)
You are...
El Roi - the God who sees me. Just like Hagar, I praise you for seeing me in my distress and providing for me in the barren places. (Genesis 16:13)
You are...
Immanuel - God you are WITH us. You are present. Jesus you came to earth, suffered, died for my sins, and rose again so I could have peace with God. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to live inside of me and to remind me you will never leave or forsake me! (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23)
Consider sharing this prayer with someone you know. Invite them to join in this chorus as we praise and honor our Creator in perfect harmony! Some will pray with a melody of tears, others with trembling, timid voices barely above a whisper, and some with the crescendo of joyful shouts. "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord" (Psalm 150), for He is worthy of praise! For more awe and wonder around the intricacies of God's creation, check out the "God's Math is Mathing" post.
